Maximizing the performance of a cutter to improve ROI times on expensive new and existing machine tools should be considered. Choosing the most up to date machining strategy and tooling provides one answer to such considerations.
High durability cast iron materials with vibration absorption properties are used for a huge range of components. Reduction in overall costs and improved productivity has become a global issue; and not just for cast iron machining, but across all areas of metal cutting production. Tooling companies are in demand to produce ever increasing levels of performance and ensure that a synergy of design, special materials and coatings delivers what the customer needs to meet their productivity issues.
The AHX640W face milling cutter offers greatly improved productivity and higher cost efficiency when machining cast iron and ductile cast iron parts. This is due to the use of a newly developed CVD coated grade MC5020 that displays low cutting resistance and is combined with unique double-sided heptagonal inserts. The double sided inserts offer the use of 14 corners that enable immediate reductions in tool costs.
Three different chip breakers are available to suit various applications. The MK breaker with a double positive cutting edge geometry offers low cutting resistance and makes it suitable for applications on less rigid and older machines. The insert chipbreaker range is complemented by HK and WK types for heavy and wiper style machining respectively.
The AHX cutter itself can also boast advancements from the latest ideas in milling cutter design technology. The extra fine pitch type uses a unique space saving wedge clamping system to ensure the maximum number of teeth per diameter can be used; which in turn promotes ultra high efficiency machining. Additionally the clamp wedge is designed to act as an Anti-fly mechanism. The cutter range covers fine pitch and super fine pitch and are available from Ø80- Ø315.
