Our operation and the extent of the damage by earthquake

18 Mars 2011

Dear Sir/Madam,

We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy to the victims of a massive earthquake which hit the northeastern part of Honshu on March 11.
As we write this letter, we are accessing the extent of damage and the degree of impact caused by the earthquake to our manufacturing plants and other facilities. We have already started our recovery efforts in order to restart operations of facilities.

Our distributor and inventory center in Japan, which temporarily suspended operations due to the damage by the earthquake, will restart its operation from Tuesday, March 22.
However, Tsukuba Plant and MMC Hard Materials (our subsidiary company), which are located near the epicenter and were damaged by the earthquake, will not be able to restart the operation until the end of April at the earliest.

In respond to this emergency situation, we will utilize our inventories located in our sales companies in order to sustain a supply to our customers, and we will seek to establish alternative sources of production and divert production to our other manufacturing plants and affiliated companies, so that we can minimize a negative impact.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by the longer-than-expected time of the suspension of production. We would like to call upon all of you for your understanding and support.

Details of shipment and production of products are shown as follows:
