New Coated CBN Grade BC8120 for High Hardened Steel Turning

October 19, 2015

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, Advanced Materials & Tools Company (President - Fumio Tsurumaki, Headquarters: 1-3-2 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has launched BC8120, a new coated CBN grade for high hardened steel turning.

BC8120 grade delivers substantially better wear resistance and high cutting edge toughness by adopting a newly developed coating and CBN substrate. It achieves high efficiency during general use and provides extended tool life that requires fewer tool changes. Additionally BC8120 is especially effective for interrupted machining of high hardened steels that are typically used for automotive parts.

The introduction of BC8120 compliments the existing BC8110 grade. This grade has also been further expanded with new items. Overall the BC81 range is perfectly suited for use over a wider range of machining applications.

Features of the new coated CBN grade, BC8120, for high hardened steel turning

1.The newly developed TiAlN Coating prevents peeling of the coating by improving welding resistance. Improved adhesion to the CBN surface provides increased wear resistance and chipping resistance.

2.Dispersal of the new Ultra Micro-particle Binder in BC8120 prevents linear crack development that can cause sudden fracturing.

3.The further developed uniquely particle-activated sintering method increases purity and achieves stable machining for a wide range of workpiece materials and applications.
