Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, Advanced Materials & Tools Company (President - Fumio Tsurumaki, Headquarters: 1-3-2 Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku,Tokyo) has launched new PVD coated carbide grades for the SRM2 ball nose end mill that is used for rough and semi-finish machining.
The SRM2 has a good reputation as an indexable ball nose end mill for rough machining moulds and for delivering excellent fracture resistance through the adoption of the specially designed body. The increased thickness of the insert and of the centre of both the body significantly improves rigidity.
The new grade MP6120; an accumulated Al-Ti-Cr-N based PVD coating, adopting proprietary Tough-∑ technology, has been added for machining stainless steels. Additionally, the MP9120 grade for machining titanium and heat resistant alloys has also been added to complement the existing range.
1. Proprietary Tough-∑ Technology (accumulated Al-Ti-Cr-N based PVD coating) with multi-layering of the coating prevents any cracks penetrating through to the substrate and dramatically improves fracture resistance.
2. MP6120 for machining stainless steels provides superior resistance to thermal cracking and welding through the adoption of (Al,Cr)N coating.
3. MP9120 with CrN coating for machining of titanium and heat resistant alloys, prevents built-up edge that may cause chipping.
