Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, Advanced Materials & Tools Company (President - Fumio Tsurumaki, Headquarters: Otemachi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has added new chip breakers to the MP9000/MT9000 insert series for turning difficult-to-cut materials.
The MP9000/MT9000 series is ideal for turning difficult-to-cut materials such as titanium, heat resistant and corrosion resistant alloys that are typically used in the aircraft and medical industries. The new chip breakers within the range help prevent problems such as continuous chip wrapping and chipping of the cutting edge. The MP9000/MT9000 series has a good reputation from customers by providing superior wear, fracture and welding resistance and for also enabling longer tool life.
To expand the application options available, a new ground insert breaker system has been added to the range for small automatic lathe machining and an insert with an MA type chipbreaker for general purpose use is also available.
1. The positive insert with new ground insert breaker system
• FS/FS-P breaker (MP9005/MP9015/MT9005)
Provides a smooth chip flow and covers the finish cutting application area for difficult-to-cut materials due to the curved cutting edge.
The FS-P breaker has a polished rake face so it is capable of providing high precision cutting of titanium alloys.
• LS/LS-P breaker (MP9005/MP9015/MT9005)
Provides excellent fracture resistance and covers low through to high depths of cut for difficult-to-cut materials due to its parallel cutting edge.
The LS-P breaker has a polished rake face for precision cutting of titanium alloys.
2. Negative inserts
• MA breaker (MP9015)
Provides excellent cutting edge sharpness due to the positive land geometry and is for general purpose use.
