MITSUBISHI MATERIALS CORPORATION Metalworking Solutions Company (Company President: Tetsuya Tanaka, Address: Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) has decided to introduce a positive insert geometry to the MP9000/MT9000 series of turning inserts for difficult-to-cut materials.
The MP9000/MT9000 series of turning inserts is suitable for machining difficult-to-cut materials such as titanium, heat-resistant and corrosion resistant alloys that are used extensively in aircraft parts and medical equipment. The improvement in chipping and welding resistance provided by the new positive insert aids in suppressing sudden fractures and prevents machining problems.
MITSUBISHI MATERIALS has decided to add additional positive inserts to expand the range of applications for the 9000 series.
1. The MP9000 series has an Al-rich (Al,Ti)N single layer coating that provides stabilization of the high hardness phase with an enhanced film hardness that gives greatly improved crater wear and welding resistance during turning of heat-resistant alloys.
・MP9005: hard grade that focuses on extreme wear resistance.
・MP9015: first recommended grade with excellent versatility for general applications.
・MP9025: toughest grade that emphasizes cutting edge stability.
2. The MT9000 series consists of the MT9005 and the MT9015 which are non-coated cemented carbide grades.
・MP9005: provides high heat resistance and ability to withstand plastic deformation and can also be used for high-speed cutting.
・MT9015: A grade with a sharp cutting edge and excellent wear and fracture resistance.
