Launch of VP15TF Grade Inserts for the Indexable Type TAF Drills

December 01, 2005

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured new VP15TF grade inserts for the TAF drill. VP15TF is a PVD, MIRACLE coated micro-grain cemented carbide grade and will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).
VP15TF Grade Inserts for the Indexable Type TAF Drills   The indexable type TAF drills have been successful since their launch in 1996. They can be used for a variety of work piece materials and different cutting conditions due to the wide combination of chip breaker geometries and insert grades available.

VP15TF, PVD coated, micro-grain cemented carbide grade is also used for a broad range of cutting tools, including various types of inserts, solid carbide end mills and drills. This grade provides high reliability and stable tool life for machining carbon, alloy and hardened steels.

Features of the VP15TF, PVD coated, micro-grain cemented carbide grade are as follows.

1.
A PVD coated grade with a balanced combination of high wear and fracture resistance. This is achieved by combining a substrate of micro-grain cemented carbide TF15, and MIRACLE VP coating.
2.
  • Stable tool life can be achieved in difficult applications on carbon and alloy steel such as thin walled and poorly clamped work pieces. This is realized because VP15TF grade is able to withstand the vibrations caused by such applications without the inserts becoming chipped.
