Launch of TAWN-H series, new hole type inserts for TAW drills

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured a new TAWN-H type for the TAW range of drills; featuring a new insert with a through hole type clamping system capable of high performance and stable heavy-duty drilling. These new inserts will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).

have enjoyed popularity in the metal cutting industry since their launch in July 2004.The new hole type inserts for TAW drills maintain the same cutting abilities as conventional TAW drills. However, by changing parts of the insert geometry, the new inserts can offer a more stable drilling performance when used under severe conditions.
Features of the hole type inserts

- The unique, optimized cross sectional flute shape, designed for efficient chip disposal allows enhanced drilling efficiency.

- Utilising Miracle VP coating with a high resistance to heat, wear and oxidation makes the drill suitable for MQL machining, thereby extending tool life.
- 3.
- By changing the design of the clamping method to a through hole type, stable drilling can be achieved during heavy cutting and when machining high viscosity workpiece materials.
Standard items of the hole type inserts for TAW drills
- 1.
- A total of 81 different types of TAWNH○○○○T inserts (for general machining) are vailable as standard. All can be supplied in diameters ø14.0 –ø20.0 in 0.1mm increments and from ø20.0 – ø30.4 in 0.5mm increments
- 2.

- For TAWBH○○○○T inserts (for bridge components), 3 different
sizes, ø24.5, ø24.7 and ø26.7 are available.
- For TAWBH○○○○T inserts (for bridge components), 3 different
sizes, ø24.5, ø24.7 and ø26.7 are available.

Note)
- Holders of the TAW hole type inserts with diameters of ø15.5mm or larger and code numbers of TAWNH1550T and above can be used with the conventional TAWSN○○○○S○○ holders. However, hole type inserts with diameters fromø14.0mm-ø15.4mm, need special holders, TAWSNH1400S16, TAWSNH1500S20, TAWMNH1400S16 or TAWMNH1500S20 (4 types in total).
