Launch of small diameter sizes of the MIRACLE coated WSTAR drills

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured new small diameter drills (diameters from ø0.5mm up to ø1.0mm) for its solid carbide, MIRACLE coated WSTAR drill range. These new drills will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).
The MIRACLE coated WSTAR drill is a general-purpose solid carbide drill. Capable of machining a vast range of work materials, they are suitable for high efficiency, precision machining. Since the launch of WSTAR range in April 2002, the series has been expanded. In July 2005, an 8 x D range, suitable for 8 x drill diameter hole depths was introduced and that addition was followed by a range of small drills in diameters from ø1.0mm up to ø3.0mm in February 2006. Mitsubishi Materials now updates the series with the world’s smallest ø0.5mm solid carbide drills with through coolant holes ahead of other companies. - With through coolant holes, internal coolant lubrication is possible. Like the MIRALCE coated WSTAR super long drills for extra deep hole drilling, the optimised flute design gives superior chip evacuation.

- Ultra high efficiency can be achieved compared to the conventional small diameter drills with no through coolant holes that require peck feeding.

- MIRACLE VP coating gives high resistance to heat, wear and oxidation and extends tool life.
