Launch of a new screw-in tools series

July 25, 2007

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation recently developed and manufactured a new screw-in tools series. These new tools will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).
Screw-in tools   In recent machining applications, how metal removal volumes can be increased and how machining time can be reduced is becoming a key factor to achieve higher machining efficiency. However, as high speeds are used to perform high efficiency machining, if the insert fractures, this may also cause the insert pocket to break, making the tool holder unusable. When using the conventional tool, if the insert pocket breaks, the tool holder has to be replaced with new one, resulting in increased costs. Especially with expensive, integral type tools with a carbide shank, the cost becomes considerable. To solve these problems, Mitsubishi Materials developed the screw-in tools that can be used by simply changing the head when the insert pocket breaks. The screw-in tool allows the simple and economical use of Mitsubishi Materials die & mould tools by designing head type tools with a screw type clamp section.

Key features of the screw-in tools series

1.
Screw-in tools enable easy tool management.
2.
Economical because only the head needs to be changed.
3.
Mitsubishi Materials main indexable end mill series that has enjoyed popularity amongst the metal cutting industry is available as screw-in heads. The tool can be used in a wide range of machining applications by simply changing the head. 4 head types, the APX3000/4000 square end mill, AJX high feed end mill, AQX multi-functional end mill series are available.
4.
The straight arbors are available in ų16~32 shank diameters and in 2 types, short and long for each diameter. In addition to a carbide type shank, a steel type is available.
5.
The integral type compact arbor designed to have the shortest tool overhang is standardized. 3 compact arbors, BT30, BT40 and HSK63 are available.
