Size expansion of the C-3SA, 3 flute ALIMASTER end mill

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured an additional 7 sizes for the C-3SARB, 3 flute ALIMASTER end mill (short cut length) for high efficiency machining of aluminium alloy. These will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida, Tokyo).

In recent years, with the expansion of the aerospace industry, there has been an increasing demand for high efficiency machining of aluminium alloy used for aerospace applications such as body and wing components. Additionally, there is also a growing demand from customers in the semiconductor industry for high performance deep slotting of aluminium alloy. To meet such demand, Mitsubishi Materials has supplied the ALIMASTER end mill series designed for high efficiency aluminium alloy machining.

The C-3SA is a range of the 3 flute ALIMASTER end mills (short cut length) that has enjoyed a good reputation for high efficiency machining of aluminium alloy due to the employment of the short cutting edge length and 37.5° helical flute geometry. To cover a wider range of machining applications, the C-3SA series is now supplemented with 7 different types of under cut type (1) that is suitable for deep slotting.

Features of the C-3SA under cut type

A 37.5° helix angle and special flute geometry suitable for aluminium machining give excellent chip disposal.
2.
High toughness carbide substrate delivers superior fracture resistance even when high performance machining.
3.
The C-3SA under cut type (1) end mill is designed for deep slotting due to the employment of the short cutting edge length and long overall length. Additionally, the curved cutting edge (2) on the shank side reduces steps when machining deep vertical walls.
4.
With the new addition of 7 sizes, the C-3SA is now available in a total of 21 sizes from ø10 to ø6.

The peripheral cutting edge on the shank side is designed with a quasi radius geometry.
