An addition to the APX4000 series, long cutting edge type for deep slotting
February 10, 2009
Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured the long cutting edge type for its APX4000 multi-functional indexable cutter series. These will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida, Tokyo).

The innovative APX multi-functional end mill comfortably achieves three important factors necessary for a successful indexable insert milling tool – low cutting resistance, high fracture resistance and long tool life. The APX4000 series has now been expanded to include a long cutting edge type for deep machining to cover a broader range of applications. Use of the long cutting edge type makes it possible to dramatically increase efficiency for 50 – 80mm deep slotting that was conventionally carried out in multiple steps.
Features of the APX4000 long edge type end mill
- 1.
- A long cutting edge length arrayed with low resistance inserts enables high efficiency machining even under large depth of cut conditions where vibration is likely to occur. For cutting diameter ø40, 2 flute type for high tool rigidity and 3 flute type for high efficiency machining are available in cutting length of 56mm. For cutting diameter ø50, 3 flute type is available in cutting lengths 56mm and 84mm.
- 2.
- 3-D flute design offers excellent chip disposal.
- 3.
- All existing inserts for the APX4000 can be used.
