Turning Inserts for Difficult-to-Cut Materials

In recent years there has been a widespread shift towards the use of difficult-to-cut materials such as titanium alloy, heat resistant and corrosion resistant alloys in various industries, in particular the aircraft and medical field. Difficult-to-cut materials have low thermal conductivity that causes rapid increases in cutting edge temperature. This causes the problems such as jamming of continuous chips and chipping of the edge due to welding and vibration during high efficiency machining. To solve the problems, new optimized insert grades "MP9015"/"MP9005"/"MP9015" for turning of difficult-to-cut materials were released in November 2013. These new grades have received a favorable reception in the market place by providing superior wear, fracture and welding resistance, as well as longer tool life.
To cover a wide range of applications, 64 new inserts for turning of difficult-to-cut materials have been added and are mainly focused the popularly requested larger size of insert.


Features

PVD coated carbide grades "MP9015/MP9005" for turning difficult-to-cut materials achieve long tool life when turning superalloys by using a high (Al,Ti)N single layer coating that is controlled during manufacture by Al-rich technology. The coating is combined with the LS, MS and RS breakers that are also specialized for turning of difficult-to-cut materials.

Carbide grade "MT9015" for turning of difficult-to-cut materials" possesses both superior wear and fracture resistance. When combining this grade with the LS, MS or RS breaker, it gives longer tool life when turning titanium alloys.

Allows a wide range of different machining applications when using the LS breaker that is optimized for light cutting, MS breaker optimized for medium cutting and the RS breaker optimized for roughing. All breakers will be available as standard items.
(Terminology)
Al-rich technology
Al-rich technology is a new coating technology that increases the content of aluminum. The high Al leads to improved layer hardness and oxidation onset temperature and stabilizes the high hardness layer. Furthermore, it delivers overwhelmingly high wear, fracture, crater and welding resistance.
